Synopsis:
Winner of Silver Bear at the 1990 Berlin International Film Festival and the Best Film of the Hundred Flowers Awards that same year, Mainland picture Black Snow earned star Jiang Wen international acclaim as he portrays a man struggling to cope with the unforgiving fate in a familiar yet strange world. Renowned Fourth-generation filmmaker Xie Fei (Woman Sesame Oil Maker) directs Liu Heng’s script based on his own novel Black Snow. Jiang is Li Huiquan, a 24-year-old man just released from labor camp for committing manslaughter while trying to help his buddy. He goes back to the family home where he was born and raised, but now his longtime girlfriend has ditched him. Without a family, the lonely man attempts to start anew, selling clothes on the street. Life is hard, and Li’s plan to go straight is shattered as he begins an ill-fated romance with a nightclub singer (Cheng Lin) and his past soon catches up with him…
